Muntjac

When I started this blog, I set out to photograph three animals:

1. A water vole - As seen in most of the posts on this blog
2. A kingfisher - something I have failed to do this year, all pictures have been utterly miserable.
3. A muntjac deer - And at last I got a picture
Unfortunately, due to a combination of poor light and even poorer photography skills, the picture is rather poor. But as it's only the fifth one I've seen in Abingdon in three years I thought I would stick it on the blog.

  1. As it happens my partner saw a muntjac on the same day as you took the photo. She was walking the dog in the Abbey Fishponds BBOWT area at about 8.15am. I wonder if it was the same animal?

  2. Thanks for your comment.
It may be the same animal, they are nomadic and I saw mine at about 7pm.
It's an interesting point, I wonder how many Muntjac we have roaming the streets and fields of Abingdon.

  3. i've often seen muntjac in the field near tesco abingdon - they appear around dusk and also during the big floods one appeared at the edge of some trees there - so presumably hides inside the rest of the time.
also saw one in someone's back garden - a house in st amand drive as i walked along the woodland path that runs through to town - i was rather taken aback.

  4. Thanks Alan - very interesting,
Looks like I'm going to have to get up earlier if I want to get more Muntjac pictures.
Interesting to know they've made it that far into town. Perhaps they're using the river as corridor?
